The Goldfinger
金手指
In Felix Chong’s The Goldfinger, Tony Leung and Andy Lau, reprising their roles as on-screen adversaries from Infernal Affairs, dive into the glitzy, blockbuster-style portrayal of a real-life financial corruption scandal in Hong Kong. The film draws inspiration from the tumultuous saga of the Carrian Group, a Hong Kong conglomerate that soared to unprecedented heights in the early 1980s before crashing amidst accusations of fraud and the mysterious murder of a bank auditor.
The Goldfinger emerges as a riveting crime thriller, ensnaring audiences with its intricate narrative and compelling characters. Chong’s adept storytelling intricately threads together a tapestry of deceit, betrayal, and redemption, ensuring a gripping experience that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from the opening scene to the final credits. Bolstered by stylish direction and a palpable atmosphere that plunges viewers into the murky depths of the criminal underworld, the film delivers a visceral and immersive cinematic journey. It has taken more than a year to finally be able to present the Austrian premiere of the film. Now it will come true. Let’s celebrate the high art of filmmaking together!
