The Fin
지느러미

In a post-war, ecologically devastated Korea, mutated outcasts known as Omegas are captured and exploited as cheap labor. Mia, an Omega in hiding, works in a shadowy fishing store that preys on people’s nostalgia for the sea. When Sujin, a newly recruited government worker, notices Mia’s unusual behavior, she begins to investigate, uncovering a hidden world that challenges her unwavering faith in the state’s ideology. Inspired by the director’s 2017 short of the same name and shaped by personal loss during the pandemic, the film reflects on fear, grief, and the helplessness that arises when familiar systems collapse.

Set in a dystopian, post-unification society, The Fin also examines the oppressive structures that pit brainwashed citizens against the marginalized underclass they are trained to both fear and exploit. Its world is vividly realized: metallic landscapes, blood-red skies, and air thick with visible pollution create a sensory dystopia that mirrors the moral and emotional decay within. Through its tense narrative and immersive visuals, The Fin offers a visually stunning meditation on systemic oppression, human resilience, and the ethical fractures of a society on the brink.
