En route to, the graduation film at the Korean Academy of Film Arts by Yoo Jaein, unfolds over the course of an ordinary day at a girls’ boarding school, where a quiet routine begins to fracture. When their homeroom teacher fails to appear, most students remain indifferent—except for Yun-ji. She has been involved in a secret relationship with the missing teacher, and after telling him she is pregnant, he disappears without explanation.
As tensions rise, an unexpected confrontation at school pushes Yun-ji to leave campus in search of illegal abortion pills. Her absence draws in her roommate Kyung-sun, a pragmatic and streetwise teenager who secretly sells vape liquids while saving for a working holiday abroad. When Kyung-sun discovers her savings gone, she begins tracking Yun-ji, only to uncover a situation more troubling than she expected.
Themes familiar to Korean cinema and television—teacher-student relationships, abortion, and conflicts between women—reappear in En Route To, yet Yoo Jaein imbues them with fresh depth and warmth. At its heart, it is also a sensitive portrait of an unlikely friendship, capturing the fragile solidarity that forms amid confusion, betrayal, and growing up.

YOO JAEIN
Yoo Jaein is a filmmaker and visual artist. She studied printmaking at Hongik University and worked in Seoul before transitioning into filmmaking through workshops at Mediact and Oh!zemidong, Chungmuro Media Center. She directed several short films, including HAPPYHAPPY COOKINGTIME (2017), Hey, How Are You? (2019), and Return to Sender (2021). Her short Ghwa The Last Name (2023) won the Chung Jung-won Award for Best Short Film at the Blue Dragon Film Awards in Korea. Her debut feature, En route to (2025), was developed as her graduation project at the Korean Academy of Film Arts.
