Delupi, the debut feature by Mohammad Touqir Islam, unfolds in a remote Bangladeshi village shaken by political upheaval and a catastrophic flood, offering an urgent and evocative portrait of a society under strain. Against this fragile landscape, the film follows Partha, the son of struggling Jatra performers, whose family faces the collapse of both livelihood and identity as the village is pushed to the brink.

Amid uncertainty, Partha’s bond with Nupur—a strong-willed woman from a higher caste—becomes a fragile source of hope. Yet their relationship is tested as opportunistic forces exploit the crisis: a returning politician Zakir manipulates divisions within the community, while grassroots resistance begins to take shape among younger villagers. As tensions escalate, questions of loyalty, justice, and survival come into focus.

Rooted in real experiences, the film draws inspiration from the floods of August 2024 in the Khulna region, where the crew lived among affected communities and absorbed their stories firsthand. Blending lived reality with fiction, Delupi captures the textures of everyday life with striking immediacy. Through the lens of one village, it reflects broader truths about contemporary Bangladesh—where resilience, love, and collective struggle persist against overwhelming odds.

MOHAMMAD TOUQIR ISLAM
Mohammad Turiq Islam is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and cinematographer.  He began making films as a teenager and later studied at the Asian School of Media Studies in India. As the founder of Footprint Film Production, his works include short films, web series, and documentaries. His debut feature Delupi (2025) premiered at IFFR 2026.
